Vino and Vivaldi Benefit

Wine. Cheese. Music... what could be better?

Come join us on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. for a spectacular evening of conversation, fabulous hors d'oeuvres and masterful music. This Gainesville Symphony Orchestra benefit will feature a performance of the Gainesville Symphony String Quartet with concertmaster, Kenny Lambert at Scotts on the Square in Downtown Gainesville, GA. All proceeds go to support the GSO's programming. This over 21 years of age event will provide a wine selection from Vina Robles. We hope to see may of our supporters and also provide an event to introduce people who are not familiar with the symphony with a taste of 'Music that Matters'.

Introducing Interim Director Jason Altieri

The Gainesville Symphony Orchestra is excited to introduce Jason Altieri who will be serving as an Interim Director for the upcoming season with the Gainesville Symphony Orchestra. Jason will be conducting the concerts on March 18th and April 30th. Search for New Music Director


The Gainesville Symphony Orchestra announces immediate vacancy for:
Music Director

A short-list of potential candidates (4-5) will be invited to guest conduct a concert during the GSO 2011-2012 season, from which the successful
applicant will be chosen.

Job Description:
The Gainesville Symphony Orchestra Music Director reports directly to the Board of Directors, and is responsible for the fulfillment of the orchestra’s artistic potential and its image in the community. He/she is responsible for the repertoire, programming, and artistic production, and has a key role in the selection, development, and (if necessary) replacement of musicians while working within budget parameters. As the orchestra’s artistic leader, he/she must build and sustain the orchestra’s visibility and involvement in the community. The Music Director is expected to work closely with the Executive Director and Board President in executing these duties.

Compensation:
Commensurate with experience.

The Gainesville Symphony Orchestra started in 1978 as the Lanier Symphony Orchestra and has since grown to a 75-member professional orchestra that currently performs 4 concerts annually in Pearce Auditorium, a 700-seat Nineteenth Century opera house, on the beautiful campus of Brenau University in the heart of downtown Gainesville, Ga.
